The Washington State
Transit Association Transit Security Council (WSTATSC) meets every other month to
review transit security information in an effort to advise Washington State agencies about
training opportunities and the standardization of report procedures, codes of conduct,
security plans, crime-reduction methods, and police/judicial cooperation.

Hats off to Pierce
Transit for their recently received GOLD Award for Security!
The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) announced the
winners of the 2011 Annual Bus Safety & Security Excellence Awards at
the opening session of the annual APTA Bus & Paratransit Conference in
Memphis, TN. APTA President William Millar shared, “These winning
public transportation systems have exemplary programs that create and
sustain exceptional workplace cultures of safety and security and add
value to all of us in the bus transportation industry.” The top honor
is the GOLD Award, which is given to organizations with the best overall
bus safety or bus security program selected by an independent panel of
judges. Pierce Transit was the GOLD Award
recipient of the Security Excellence Award for bus systems with
passenger trips between 4 million and 20 million annually.
